Growing Older

By Angie Dekker

The mirror does lie,
She can't be this old
Her thoughts are denying
what her body tells bold
Just a dream ago
She was young and naive
Thoughts of coming days
Had made her believe
She looks at the mirror
its deception so crass
studies the lines
seemingly etched in brass
The truth dawns upon her
as she sees her own eyes
for the strength within
has withstood the lies
She may be older
wrinkled and grey
but in her steely soul
the young girl does lay
